Barcelona to decide on new stadium before 2014
The Catalans' numbers-man Javier Faus says the club's supporters will know what the future holds for their beloved ground by the end of the current year
Barcelona finance director Javier Faus has revealed the club will come to a decision about whether to remain at Camp Nou or begin developing a new stadium by the end of 2013.

The Catalunya-based arena has housed the Blaugrana supporters for some 56 years, but the club's money-man says the Spanish giants will carefully examine three options by the end of the year - one of which entails building a new home - before allowing the club's supporters to vote on their preferred course of action.

He told reporters: "We don’t know what would be better financially. We’ve got three projects on the table: to build a stadium on the current site, next to it or somewhere else.

"We don’t want to be hasty about the decision. Before the year is up we’ll have everything ready to call a referendum on the matter."

Meanwhile, Faus went on to state Thiago Alcantara's sale to Bayern Munich represented good business from an economic perspective - but believes the Blaugrana will rue the Spaniard's departure from a sporting viewpoint.

"From a sporting point of view Thiago’s sale isn’t good, because he has a great future, but from economic point of view it’s not bad," he added.

"We got €25 million for a player, which is more than normal, it’s not bad, especially given that his buy-out clause was 18.

"We could make a lot of money selling, but some players are irreplaceable."
